大阪、東京・名古屋で開催される『モーターサイクルショー2024』。3月15日からスタートした大阪会場のOGKカブトブースでは、アレイシ・エスパルガロの「弱虫ペダル」コラボヘルメットが展示されている。
MotoGPライダーのアレイシが日本の漫画とコラボしたいという本人の希望で実現した「弱虫ペダル」スペシャルデザインの"Kabuto F-17"。2023年MotoGP第14戦日本GPでアレイシが使用したものだ。Kabutoとアレイシの関係は2023年から新たに3年契約を結んだことに始まる。自転車競技も愛するエスパルガロにとって、自転車用と競技の両方で信頼できるヘルメットメーカーを得られたことは大きな喜びだったに違いない。
MotoGP初の「MIPS(Multidirectional Impact Protection System)」システムを搭載している。MIPSは回転エネルギーによる脳への衝撃を低減する安全技術で、MotoGPでの義務化も検討されている。エスパルガロは「空力性能に優れ、ブレーキング、加速、高速域でも安定している」と高く評価し、「MIPSの初期開発に携われた」ことも光栄だったと喜びを語った。
地元スペインで寿司店を開業するほどの日本文化ファンでもあるエスパルガロ。彼とOGKカブトのユニークなコラボレーションに今後も注目が集まりそうだ。
Aleix Espargaro's "Yowamushi Pedal" Helmet
The special "Kabuto F-17" helmet design featuring the popular manga "Yowamushi Pedal" that Aleix Espargaro used at the 2023 MotoGP Japanese Grand Prix was realized based on Espargaro's own request to collaborate with a Japanese manga. The relationship between Kabuto and Aleix began with a new 3-year contract signed in 2023. For Espargaro, who also loves cycling, it must have been a great pleasure to find a helmet manufacturer he can trust for both cycling and racing.
OGK has also equipped MotoGP's first "MIPS" technology. MIPS is an innovative safety technology that reduces rotational energy impact on the brain, and its mandatory adoption in MotoGP is also being considered. Espargaro highly praised it, saying, "It offers excellent aerodynamic performance and stability during braking, acceleration, and high speeds," and was honored to have been involved in the initial development of MIPS.
Aleix is a sushi lover and such a Japanophile that he even opened a sushi restaurant in his hometown of Spain. We look forward to seeing more creative endeavors from him and OGK Kabuto.
